Timeless design, made to last generations.

About Us

Since 1975, our story has been intertwined with craftsmanship and classic design. Inspired by South African living with English Country and French Provincial influences, the unmistakable Block & Chisel look was shaped.

As the brand grew, so did its presence. From Cape Town to Johannesburg, stores were created not simply as places to shop but as spaces that express the Block & Chisel world.

A Legacy Continued

Block & Chisel has long been known for furniture that gathers stories in its grain and feels as considered years from now as it does the day it arrives.

Our story goes back to 1975, when master cabinet maker Sibley McAdam began pursuing the craftsmanship of fine furniture making. Alongside him was Lynn McAdam, whose instinct for design and vision led to the opening of the first Block & Chisel store in Chelsea Village in 1987.

Today, Block & Chisel is led by Paul McAdam and Sue McCoubrey, second-generation custodians and children of the brand’s founders. They continue a legacy built on craftsmanship and a deep respect for the spaces we call home.

Nearly forty years on,

Our purpose remains the same: to create furniture and spaces that feel authentic, enduring and beautifully lived in.

We continue building on the values that shaped Block & Chisel from the beginning: respect for craftsmanship, materials that improve with time and designs meant to last for years to come.

This is Block & Chisel.
