Natalie Bulwer truly adores eclectic interiors
Natalie Bulwer
Cape Town-based decorator, Natalie Bulwer tells us how her study of fine art and fashion translates into her own interiors.
Q
Why did you choose a career in interiors?
A
I studied Fine Art and then went on to work in the fashion Industry. This exposure helped me understand balance, color, and texture which I have always translated into my own interiors. I was asked by a few individuals to decorate their spaces while still in the Art industry and the rest is history!
Q
Do you have a specific style, what inspires you?
A
I still love a neutral palette, BUT the inspiration comes from the beautiful textures and splashes of surprising color that I introduce into each individual space.
Q
Tell us about your latest project?
A
I am working on a new build in the Constantia Valley with breathtaking views over the valley. This large home is inspired by the Cape Dutch vernacular and the architecture has been a huge inspiration in creating a cross over that also translates this into the interior spaces. I would call it a classically inspired modern Cape homestead.
Q
What advice do you have for our clients if they wish to redecorate?
A
Don’t be scared to have an eclectic mix of furnishings, most B&C products can so easily hold their own in an existing environment.
Q
What is your favourite piece in your home?
A
My Oak Armoire which is used as our drinks cabinet, Its so gentle and its obvious age is so charming.
Q
Share with us your simplest décor tip.
A
Decide on a finished style or room scheme for your home before you start buying anything! Create a storyboard, it really does work!
