Decorator of the Month
Candice Whitton
When interior decorating is passed down from mother to daughter, it is safe to say that the passion for interiors runs deep. Decorator Candice Whitton of Nest Interiors brings inspiration and practicality to each project she does, offering the sentiment that her client's interiors should be a personal sanctuary. We get talking to get a better sense of her approach to her work.
Q
Why did you choose a career in interiors?
A
My Mum was and is my main influence, she has been a decorator for years, so it is in my DNA - there was no fighting it.
I grew up in a home where furniture, rooms and paint colours were changed on a regular basis. Needless to say I started decorating my bedroom from a very young age. One thing lead to another and here I am. I absolutely love my job!
Q
Do you have a specific style? What inspires you?
A
My favourite style is organic chic with a touch of glam and a whole lot of comfort.
Q
What is your favourite piece in your home?
A
I definitely can't choose one piece! But if I was forced to choose one aspect, I'd say it's our art collection. My husband and I collect art and I can honestly say that each artwork is special to me, otherwise they wouldn't be on our walls.
Q
What advice do you have for those of us who wish to redecorate?
A
Start by collecting pics of interiors that inspire you. Visit some of the amazing decor shops that we have available to get an idea of what is out there. If you are undecided on a particular look use a neutral palette, bring in scatter cushions to add texture, colour and interest. Add pieces that you love to look at on a daily basis; after all, your home must be your sanctuary.
Q
Tell us about your latest project.
A
It was a renovation which took almost a year to complete but it was well worth the wait. The home has been transformed and is enjoyed by an awesome family who appreciate all that their home has to offer. It makes me a very happy decorator.
Q
What is your favourite piece currently available at Block & Chisel?
A
There are so many pieces that are just gorgeous. I do love the Savoy couch in magical emerald. It is stylish as well as fun and adds a pop of colour to any room.
Q
Share your simplest decor tip.
A
Keep it simple and don't over clutter by adding a whole lot of small decor accessories (I call them dust collectors). Rather be bold and choose some larger objects or furniture pieces that make a statement. Let each piece have its space and always add flowers and greenery to your living environment. Above all enjoy your home!
