Barbara McGregor
Classic style meets botanical references in decorator Barbara McGregor's interiors. She has most notably transformed Spier Hotel's 153 guest rooms and works with a range of private clients to offer exquisite homes for them all. We chat to her about her work.

Why did you choose a career in interiors?
A
I studied the history of art and slipped into a career in interiors after many years in magazines.

Do you have a specific style? What inspires you?
A
I try to allow the client to dictate the style. I enjoy lots of white, lots of flowers, lots of mirrors, lots of patterns.

Tell us about your latest project?
A
It's a family home which combines beautiful architecture with fantastic surrounding mountains and scenery near Cape Town. I am working with a wonderful team and inspiring clients That’s the best part; it’s never just one person that makes a project come together.

What advice do you have for our clients if they wish to redecorate?
A
Start with something you love. Everything else will follow.

What is your favourite piece in your home?
A
A Lisa Ringwood vase, which was a gift from a dear client.

What is your favourite piece currently available at Block & Chisel?
A
I love Sibley's designs. They are classic and timeless and the pieces grow with a family and can have many lives and functions.

A
Don’t be afraid of colour. Don't ask your friends and mirrors change everything!
